We Happily Accept Patients Covered by the CDCP
Oral health is an essential part of your overall well-being, but for many Canadians, the cost of dental care has been a barrier to receiving regular treatment. Fortunately, the new CDCP is helping to change that by offering affordable dental coverage to eligible individuals and families. At ABN Family Dental in Aurora, Ontario, we are proud to support this initiative and now accept eligible Canadian residents who qualify for the CDCP. Whether you need a routine check-up, a dental filling, or more comprehensive care, our team is here to help you access the treatment you need through this important program.
What is CDCP
What is the Canadian Dental Care Plan , and Who is Eligible?
The Canadian Dental Care Plan, or CDCP for short, is a federal initiative introduced by the Government of Canada to improve access to affordable dental care for uninsured Canadians with lower incomes. Rolled out in phases starting in 2024 (which have since commenced), the plan aims to cover essential dental services for those who meet the eligibility criteria.
The CDCP is operated in partnership with Sun Life, which handles the claims and processing for the plan. It’s designed to reduce out-of-pocket costs and ensure more Canadians can maintain their oral health without financial hardship.
Eligibility
To be eligible for CDCP coverage, you must meet the following criteria:
- Be a Canadian resident for tax purposes
- Have an adjusted family net income of less than $90,000 per year
- Have no private dental insurance
- Have filed a tax return in the previous year
- Adults with a valid Disability Tax Credit certificate for 2023
Depending on your family’s income level, the CDCP may cover 100%, 60%, or 40% of eligible dental service costs; therefore, patients may still have to pay a portion of the cost, depending on their income and the specific treatment.
Services Covered
The CDCP covers a wide range of essential dental services, including:
- Routine dental exams and cleanings (including deep cleanings below the gum line)
- X-rays
- Fillings
- Root canal treatments
- Pain control for diseased teeth
- Repairs to dental crowns
- Tooth extractions
- Complete and partial dentures
- Periodontal care (for gum disease)
- Minimal sedation
Coverage is based on a pre-established fee schedule the federal government sets, which may differ from standard provincial dental fees.
Benefits
Enrolled in CDCP? Let Us Maximize Your Benefits
After your application is approved, you’ll receive an enrollment package and your CDCP coverage start date. Once your coverage is active, call ABN Family Dental to book your appointment and let us know you’re using the CDCP, whether you’re a new or recurring patient. We’ll help ensure your treatment plan aligns with your scope of coverage under the CDCP. And remember, your CDCP coverage will need to be renewed each year that you are eligible, beginning in March 2025. You’ll easily be able to renew online, but make sure you do so before June 1, 2025, to avoid potential gaps in coverage.
