Health & Wellness

Supporting Aurora’s Health & Wellness Community

We believe that true health goes beyond the dental chair. It’s built through connection, movement, nutrition, mental well-being — and yes, a healthy mouth. As an active member of the Aurora community, we’re proud to partner with local organizations that share our commitment to whole-body wellness and community care.

Community & Health

Why Community & Health Go Hand in Hand

Healthy communities foster healthy individuals, and healthy individuals contribute to thriving communities. When we support one another — through fitness, mindfulness, compassion, and access to care — we create an environment where everyone has the opportunity to feel their best.

That’s why our involvement in Aurora extends beyond dentistry. We collaborate with wellness-focused businesses, support local athletics, and participate in initiatives that bring care and connection to those who need it most.

Community & Health

Our Wellness Partnerships

We’re honoured to work alongside organizations in Aurora that prioritize health, balance, and community strength.

Modo Yoga Aurora

Yoga and oral health might seem unrelated at first, but they share a common goal: reducing stress and inflammation in the body. Chronic stress can lead to teeth grinding, jaw tension, and gum disease. Practices like yoga help calm the nervous system, improve breathing, and support overall physical health — including your oral health.

We’re proud to partner with Modo Yoga Aurora, a studio that brings mindfulness, movement, and community connection to our neighbors. Together, we support a more balanced approach to wellness.

Alpha Fit

Physical fitness and oral health are closely connected. Regular exercise improves circulation, reduces inflammation, and strengthens the immune system — all of which support healthier gums and a healthier body. Nutrition and hydration, central to any fitness routine, also play a major role in preventing cavities and maintaining strong teeth.

Our partnership with Alpha Fit reflects our shared belief that wellness is holistic. When you move your body, fuel it well, and care for your mouth, everything works together.

Athletics

Supporting Youth & Local Athletics

We proudly sponsor local youth soccer, because we believe sports teach more than skills — they teach teamwork, resilience, and the value of a healthy lifestyle. Encouraging kids to stay active, work together, and take pride in their health sets the foundation for lifelong wellness.

Youth athletics also remind us why preventive care matters. Mouthguards protect smiles on the field, and regular dental visits keep young athletes confident and pain-free.

ShoeBox Project

Giving Back Through the ShoeBox Project

Each year, our team participates in the ShoeBox Project, assembling care packages for women experiencing homelessness or hardship. These thoughtfully packed boxes include essentials and small comforts that remind recipients they are seen, valued, and cared for.

Health isn’t just physical — it’s emotional and social too. Acts of kindness, dignity, and community support contribute to overall well-being in ways that matter deeply.

Partnership

Partnering with Aurora’s Fire Department

We’ve had the privilege of collaborating with the Aurora Fire Department at local farmers’ markets, connecting with neighbours, and sharing information about health and safety. These events give us the chance to talk about oral health in a relaxed, friendly setting and to strengthen the ties that make Aurora such a special place to live and work.

Oral & Overall Health

The Connection Between Oral Health & Overall Health

Your mouth is a window into your overall health. It’s one of the first places where signs of systemic issues can appear, and it plays a significant role in your body’s immune response and inflammation levels.

How Oral Health Affects Your Body

Research continues to show strong links between oral health and:

  • Heart health: Gum disease has been associated with an increased risk of heart disease and stroke, likely due to inflammation and bacteria entering the bloodstream.
  • Diabetes management: People with diabetes are more susceptible to gum disease, and untreated gum disease can make blood sugar harder to control.
  • Respiratory health: Bacteria from the mouth can be inhaled into the lungs, contributing to infections like pneumonia.
  • Pregnancy outcomes: Gum disease during pregnancy has been linked to premature birth and low birth weight.
  • Mental well-being: Oral pain, infection, or embarrassment about your smile can affect self-esteem, social connection, and quality of life.

A Holistic Approach to Your Care

At ABN Family Dental, we don’t just treat teeth in isolation. We take time to understand your overall health, lifestyle, and wellness goals. Whether you’re managing a chronic condition, training for a race, practicing yoga, or simply trying to feel better day to day — we see the bigger picture and help you protect your oral health as part of your overall wellness journey.
